The Grand Chase (Korean: 그랜드 체이스, Grand Chase) is initially a Serdin-Kanavan allied force comprised of three elite soldiers, Elesis, Lire, and Arme, assembled to hunt the evil witch Kaze'aze who initiated the five-year war between the two kingdoms. The group has become significantly monumental since then, with both the original and more recent members being hailed as heroes in their respective motherlands and home worlds.

Background

01 Knight Master 1

Knight Master Lothos Isolet.

The Grand Chase was formally established in the year 1459 after the Kanavan Trackers, who had been dispatched by Queen Anyumena to pursue Kaze'aze, failed to return from their mission. In her final act of desperation, Queen Enaruv would form the Grand Chase, her one last hope, with Elesis, Lire, and Arme handpicked as its founding members by the Queen herself, recruiting them through a secret letter.

Under the guidance of Knight Master Isolet, the three young heroes underwent a series of rigorous trials and quests before they were officially recognized as the Grand Chase, and they have grown in numbers since as warriors with newfound purposes aspired to join the organization.

The twenty members of the Grand Chase are playable characters in the game. Each has a unique way of fighting and each possesses unique skills in combat.

Originally the game only contained 3 characters: the Knight Elesis, the Archer Lire, and the Magician Arme. As the game expands, more characters have been introduced and each of them has been given extra unlockable Job Change classes to improve their fighting abilities.

Unlocking

Charslotticket

Character Slot Open Ticket.

To play a character, they must first be placed in an empty character slot. There were 4 empty slots available to the player upon account creation and additional characters could be created by using Character Slot Open tickets that could be purchased from the Cash Shop or obtained from events. With an open slot, any character can be unlocked. However, once a character is created, it can neither be deleted nor can the player assign the same character to different slots.

With the game reopening as GrandChase Classic, the player is given as many character slots as the number of characters released, allowing the player to unlock every character.

Trivia

Likability Elesis 02

A depiction of Elesis and her father as they chose to follow opposing paths in life.

  • Previously, all characters except Elesis, Lire, Arme, Edel, and Veigas as well as Sieghart and Rufus in the Korean server required Missions to be completed to unlock and play as them.
    • As of Season V, this method of unlocking has since been discarded.
    • Before Season V, Uno was a special "event only" character and the only character to require this method of unlocking.
  • In EP 6: Elscud of Elesis' Likability, Zero mentioned that Elscud was a "previous" and "senior" member of the Grand Chase even though his disappearance preceded the formation of the group.
    • It is most likely that Zero simply wanted to speak positively of Elscud because he may have thought the knight's purpose was just as noble as that of the Grand Chase, and Elesis even seemed to appreciate his point of view.
